BloomfieldHistory.org is an effort to explore, preserve, and share the history of Greater Bloomfield. At present, is a demonstration website only, not intended for public use until mid-2008.

Why focus on "Greater" Bloomfield, the township as it was prior to the separation of Belleville, Nutley, Montclair, Glen Ridge, and Woodside? To aid researchers. From the time Bloomfield was incorporated until the surrounding sections were separated, their residents' records--censuses, deeds, and sometimes wills, etc.--primarily referred to Bloomfield. In some cases, it is very difficult to tell where within the township someone lived, so consolidating this information gives the researcher a consolidated view--not to mention an historic perspective.

 BloomfieldHistory.org has three main purposes:

  • Improve access to Bloomfield-specific historic information;
  • Reduce handling of fragile original documents by offering digital images to the public; and
  • To produce a first-class local history in time for Bloomfield's bi-centennial in 2012.

BloomfieldHistory.org has two target audiences:

  • Bloomfielders who want to learn about their town, neighborhood, home, and/or family; and
  • Bloomfield researchers, including family historians with Bloomfield roots.
